Today 80,250 people will be filling the seats of Williams-Brice Stadium to watch the South Carolina Gamecocks play host to the #1 Alabama Crimson Tide. Each one of those fans paid a minimum of $45 dollars for their tickets. I'm not passing judgment, as I myself am an avid Alabama fan who goes to at least one game every year. This just made me think about the society we live in.
Some of the highest paying salaries in America are paid to professional athletes. This would be insane to most people in other countries. To pay such exorbitant amounts of money to people who "play" a "game" for a living does seem insane.
This lead me to think about other inconsistencies in American culture. America rewards and promotes mediocrity. We place higher taxes on the extremely wealthy, and turn around and give that money to those that make no contribution to society whatsoever. Over half of America is on welfare. Don't get me wrong, I am all about helping those in need, but this redistribution of wealth doesn't encourage productivity. Some people will actually stay out of work, because if they were to get a job they would lose their government checks. Others are on disability for things like ADD and diabetes. I'm sorry, but I have ADD and though it got me a lot of spankings as a child it is far from a disabling disease.
Wake up America and more importantly wake up Americans!
